NATIONAL TOUR "MELANCOLIA" – A voice, a lute and a guitar at Peleș Castle –
What would it be like if two genius composers, John Dowland, the most important lutenist and author of lute songs of the Elizabethan era, and Franz Schubert, the "prince of the lied", met in a concert-dialogue across time charged with the ethos of Melancholy, one of the main ingredients of their music? You can find out the answer during the "Melancholy" National Tour, held in 7 cities across the country, which stops on Saturday, 23.09, starting at 4:00 PM, in the Music Hall of Peleș Castle in Sinaia. Initiated by guitarist Costin Soare, along with mezzo-soprano Claudia Codreanu and lutenist Constantin Lazar, the proposed concert is a musical, visual and literary journey through the Elizabethan and Romantic eras.
The original repertoire chosen and thematically grouped under the emblem of Melancholy (tears; unrequited love; sleep/dream/death; romantic nature; longing; wanderer/fate) will be presented to the public in the form of an interdisciplinary project, the music being accompanied by a virtual exhibition with period paintings, curated by Maria Pașc, and by a program booklet with translations of the texts by Alexandru M. Călin. The transitions between the two eras represent the original creations of photographer Daniel Munteanu and composer Cătălin Ștefănescu-Pătrașcu, visual and sound sketches, with works for guitar and lute written for the first time in the Romanian musical space.
Admission to the concert is by reservation, writing to kitharalogos@gmail.com.
