The Peleș National Museum invites you to visit the temporary exhibition "Goldsmithing with a Story", curated by Corina Dumitrache, museographer, and arranged in the exhibition halls of Peleș Castle. The exhibition aims to capitalize on the rich heritage of the museum's goldsmithing collection, the core of which was constituted by the pieces purchased by King Carol I of Romania. A significant percentage of its economy is represented by objects offered as gifts by personalities from the country and abroad, on the occasion of various events in the public and private life of the members of the Romanian monarchy. The descendants of the first sovereign of Romania contributed to the enrichment and diversification of the royal precious metal collection. The pieces, with special artistic and memorial value, bear the marks of renowned workshops from Germany, France, Italy, Austria, England, Romania, Sweden, from the late 19th century and early 20th century.
Heritage items are on display that commemorate the one-year anniversary of the arrival of King Carol I in Romania, and, for the first time, a vessel is exhibited that bears witness to the Coronation of King Carol I and Queen Elisabeth, an event that took place on May 10, 1881. The pieces from the silver wedding anniversary of the royal couple Carol I – Elisabeth (November 3/15, 1894), the 40th anniversary of their marriage (1909), the Coronation of King Ferdinand and Queen Maria, as sovereigns of Greater Romania (October 15, 1922), the 2nd anniversary of the Carlist Restoration (June 8, 1932) are added to the objects that commemorate the passing into eternity of some members of the dynasty – the medallion with the last photograph of King Carol I's father (died on June 2, 1885), the brooch from the death of Queen Maria's father (July 30, 1900), the medallion with the lock of hair Queen Victoria of England, the paternal grandmother of Princess Maria, the box in which the heart of Queen Maria of Romania was placed, on July 18, 1938. Gifts offered by royal guests or purchased during trips abroad by Romanian sovereigns complete this selection of "goldsmithing with a story".
The exhibition is open from August 1 to September 1, 2025 and can be visited free of charge from Wednesday to Sunday, between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM (last admission).
